After commissioning in early 1961, Kitty Hawk was thrust into combat and did its duty well during the 24-hour-a-day bombing of North Vietnam. The ship would ultimately earn a Vietnam Service medal with 16 stars, a Sea Service Deployment ribbon with 17 stars, a Navy/Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon with nine stars, and a Presidential Unit Citation. This book will be an excellent addition to any military history buff’s library or a fine gift to a veteran sailor who served on the USS Kitty Hawk .
